Effective 12 October 2026
Music Tutor (musictutor.app) is a free music-learning app for AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude, operated by Mayank Sanganeria, maker of Real Sight Reader and Real Ear Trainer ("we"). This policy covers the Music Tutor tools, the cards they show inside your assistant, and this website. It has no accounts, no sign-in and no payments, and we do not ask for your name, email or any other personal information.
When your assistant decides to use Music Tutor, it sends us a tool call. We receive only the inputs listed below, never your conversation, your messages, your files or your account details with the assistant provider. We use each input only to produce that tool's result.
| Tool | Inputs we receive |
|---|---|
| sightreading_exercise | level, hand, a composer or piece filter, a skill to focus on, a seed number |
| find_music | search text, composer, era, form, how many results, page; optional transposition |
| show_notation | music notation written by the assistant (ABC, MusicXML or MEI), an optional bass part, a one-line caption; optional transposition |
| check_part_writing | a chorale exercise in music notation, an optional bass line, key, Roman numerals, rule style |
| show_chord_or_scale | chord or scale, root note, type |
| guess_the_composer | number of rounds, difficulty, whether it is the daily round |
| show_lead_sheet | a song title; optional transposition |
| find_harmony_example | a harmony concept, composer, examples to skip |
| suggest_next_pieces | a piece you can already play (title or catalogue id), level, composer, era, how many, pieces to skip |
| show_passage | catalogue work id, bar range, bar to highlight, source, concept; optional transposition |
| ear_training_quiz | quiz settings: preset, interval or chord family, answer options, playback style, register, roots, chord qualities, number of questions, seed |
Inputs are chosen by your assistant from your request. Please do not put personal information into music requests (for example in a caption or search); if you do, it may appear in our logs as described below.
Each tool returns engraved notation (SVG and MusicXML), note timings for playback, catalogue details (titles, composers, bar numbers, sources and licences), part-writing feedback, quiz questions and links to related pages on realsightreader.com, realeartrainer.com and playablebook.com. Outputs are sent to your assistant and its card; we do not store them. Your assistant provider handles them under its own privacy policy.
To build results, search terms and filters are sent to our own music catalogue service (corpus.e7mac.com), which runs on the same Cloudflare infrastructure and keeps only the request logs described below.
The musictutor.app home page uses PostHog analytics to count page views and clicks (such as copying the connector URL), so we know whether the page is useful. PostHog stores a random identifier in your browser to recognise repeat visits and receives your IP address and browser details; we do not create named profiles or link visits to you. Website pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address.
| Record | Contents | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| Tool usage log | tool name, its inputs (music notation is never logged, only its length; other inputs up to 1,000 characters), the assistant app's name (e.g. "ChatGPT") and the user agent of its server | 90 days |
| Learning-action counters | action name only | 90 days |
| Cloudflare request logs | the same tool-usage details plus request metadata, which can include the IP address of the device or server making the request | up to 7 days |
| Website analytics (PostHog) | page views, clicks, random browser identifier, IP-derived approximate location, browser and device type | up to 1 year |
None of these records contains your name, email, assistant account or conversation, and we do not try to identify you from them. Tool calls reach us from your assistant provider's servers, so the IP addresses in tool-call logs are normally the provider's, not yours.
We use these records only to run and secure the service, fix errors, prevent abuse, and understand in aggregate which tools are used. We do not use them for advertising, sell them, or use them to train AI models.
We do not sell or rent data and share it with no one else, except if required by law. Links to Real Sight Reader, Real Ear Trainer and playablebook.com open those sites, which have their own privacy policies; these links carry only campaign tags naming the tool (such as utm_source=mcp-app), never anything about you.
Music Tutor is used through AI assistants that set their own minimum ages (for ChatGPT, 13). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
All traffic uses HTTPS. Logs are accessible only to the people who run Music Tutor. Cloudflare processes data on its global network and PostHog in the United States.
When what we collect changes, we update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect.
Email privacy@musictutor.app for any privacy question or request.
